Recently, the ‘Gram hit us with two exciting bits of news. The first – they’ve smashed through the 1 billion users worldwide ceiling. Looks like we’re not the only ones who are a bit addicted!
It’s newsflash number two which really got us excited though. We’re talking about the release of Instagram TV, or IGTV for short. For influencers, content creators and brands, we just know that IGTV is going to be a hit.

Introducing… IGTV
Instagram TV is a new opportunity which gives you the chance to share original user-generated content via the IGTV app. It’s like an extension of Instagram’s story feature, which has been super-popular for increasing brand awareness – but is somewhat restricted by its limited length.
With IGTV you have the opportunity to create videos up to ten minutes long (or an hour, for those accounts with high amounts of followers).

It’s practically made for promoting your business or brand!

So, what are you waiting for? Here’s a few of our tips on using IGTV to your advantage.

Your Message to the World
Don’t get us wrong – the humble Insta Story was a powerful tool for getting a snappy message across. Now though, IGTV offers an ideal way to interact with your followers on a deeper level. Longer videos mean more opportunity to promote your brand’s identity – think product demonstrations and customer reviews.

It’s a great medium to give your followers a more in-depth experience of who you are as a brand. Maybe that could be an animated explainer video, offering a comprehensive overview of how your business works. Or maybe, if you’re Netflix, it’s a full one-hour video of Cole Sprouse eating a burger. Or anything in between!

What Makes Killer Long-Form Content?
So, you now have ten whole minutes to promote your brand. Great opportunity to ramble on for a bit, right?

Just kidding!

Of course, IGTV is an opportunity to engage with your audience on a deeper level. But good long-form content provides value. If your message can be conveyed in thirty seconds, stick to conveying it in thirty seconds.

On the other hand, if you want to share insight and tips, strategy or company information in a more thoughtful form, you’re onto a winner.

Maybe your business provides a specialized service and a longer and more thoughtful review will enthuse consumers. Perhaps you’re looking to build awareness – more deliberative insight into your cause will get people on board. For in-depth tutorials and product demonstrations, you can’t go wrong.

Have a Little Fun
Ask yourself – how will you stand out? How can you take a ten-minute video and turn it into a game-changer? The possibilities are limitless and as always, creativity is king.

There’s no reason you can’t take a less serious approach to IGTV. If you’re proud of your office culture, arrange a behind-the-scenes office tour. Maybe a day-in-the-life mini-documentary. Capture events, such as product launches or competitions. Use IGTV to include CTA’s, introduce your team to the world, film marketing stunts and more.

Remember – by no means does IGTV require you to use actual video footage. Depending on your brand, using an animated explainer video could put a light-hearted spin on an informative tutorial or give an overview of your business with an engaging twist. It’s an ideal way to visualize more complicated topics.

Animations can be the perfect way to spice up what could otherwise be considered as less interesting content. When it comes to explaining campaigns or conveying statistics, don’t be limited to your camera – think outside the box!

If you’re ready to start having a bit of fun with IGTV then chances are your followers will have fun watching it too. So, what are you waiting for? Time to get creative!
